Who we are:

EcoTrek Tours is a non profit organization comprised of a group of dedicated and informed individuals committed to creating interactive learning opportunities in environmental education for elementary and high schools throughout the Lower mainland.

Our vision is to make environmental education more efficient and effective by engaging the youth with local initiatives in the community. Instead of creating another educational program, EcoTrek Tours connects existing educational outreach programs to schools. By working with schools and the organizations, we hope to create relevant and informative tours that meet the highest standard of education.

Why:

As it stands, there is a large disconnect between institutional learning of the environment and the plethora of educational opportunities in the community.

The demands placed on teachers often limit their time and capacity to conduct proper research on reputable environmental outreach programs and locate the ones most suited to meet their needs.

EcoTrek does the research and logistics and offers safe and reliable transportation with trained guides available to answer any questions that may arise. And since we are non profit, the tour costs are kept low so that we attract more schools and create a bigger impact.

How:

Our non profit organization abides by certain principles to ensure it remains an effective and credible organization. EcoTrek is:

-Collaborative: We've adopted a participatory process that helps facilitate continuous learning and engage stakeholders to help determine the direction of the organization. By incorporating various groups in the development process, we are able to grow according to the needs and interests of the teachers and students.

-Autonomous: Our non profit is free of any religious ideology, economic interests or political affiliation.

-Carbon sensitive: We practice what we preach. As an environmental non profit organization, we reduce our carbon footprint in every possible way

Offsetting: After our trial year, we will assess our carbon footprint and will offset it through tree planting.
Recycle, reduce, reuse: EcoTrek uses 100% biodegradable paper materials.

-Impact oriented: Our organization measures the effects that it has on the students. By assessing the knowledge and interest of the students before and after the tour, EcoTrek can measure its effectiveness and impact; an important criteria for a well functioning and effective organization.
