What they’ll learn:
Tours will cover the five main aspects of sustainable buildings - energy, materials, water, site placement, and social space – and present additional economic reasons for green buildings. Students will also learn about green building classification systems. Emphasis will be placed on what students and their families can do in their existing homes, schools, and social spaces to live with a lighter impact on the Earth. Most tours last a half-day in length to accommodate high school class schedules.

Langara College Library and Cascadia BC Green Building

The library at Langara College boasts LEED Gold status based on environmental responsibility and energy efficiency. Its most prominent feature, unique to the other tours, is geothermal heating and cooling. Other outstanding features include sensor-controlled windows for natural ventilation and rainwater harvesting landscaping.
Gleneagles Community Centre and Residential site at Altamont

Students will visit Gleneagles Community Centre, followed by a tour of BC’s first LEED Gold home.
Note: All half day tours include a tour to one of the locations listed above
Tours are intended for groups of 30 students. Full-day tours are $550. Please consider the additional cost for a TOC, if necessary.
As a non profit, all money generated from the tours:
- Help offset operational costs (fuel, driver, insurance, etc)
- Assists lower income schools
- Covers some fees for the site
- Pays for instructional material and workshop materials (for particular tours)
